Are women’s and men’s brains wired differently?
Well it seems it has been proved. A “pioneering “ study, somewhere in America, of less than 1000 people, between aged 18-22 (which is when the hormones have kicked in to “wire the brain”). No mention of race or class, but it “proves” that men are good map reading and spatial events and women are better at multi-tasking.
It must be that women’s multitasking means that they are good at feeding the kids, doing the washing, cleaning behind the fridge and also holding down a part time job.
Conveniently ignoring that to generalise for the whole human race, from such a small study is not really scientific, the papers jumped upon it,and it is interesting to ask why.
Surely it is because the women are getting uppity. Not only are they demanding equal pay, ( or requesting politely since 1968, at Dagenham). Also they expect to have women CEOs, and women on boards.
The boss of Veolia Environment, in the UK., Estelle Brachlianoff (French) outrageously thinks that not only should women be in top positions, but there should be others following in the footsteps, women in the pipeline as well, benefiting both growth and the economy.
Can they have it all? Equality of pay, power and position?
Interestingly in the Southern Hemisphere, there seems to be a different effect of a hot climate on women achievers.
There are a number of women presidents in the African continent, Australia and New Zealand and some American countries. To look at only one of these women achievers Michele Bachelet. Tortured by Pinochet, then Minister of health, Minister of the armed forces, President of Chile.
Two years ago appointed UN Ambassador for Women. That’s multi tasking, and it seems the hot climate has something to do with it. Not content with that she seems to be about to take on the role of President in the current elections. We will know on 15th December. She has already won the first round.
