Dove’s newest advertisement, for real mums, has shown it’s commitment to diversity by featuring a transgender mum and her partner.

The Baby Dove #RealMoms advert also features a tech manager mum, a break-dancing mum and a cattle ranching mum.

Dove explained that the purpose of the advert is to show “diverse parenting styles”. The company also explained that it should:

“shatter stereotypes about motherhood, and prove that there are no rules about how to be a parent today”.

In the advert, Shea, a transgender mum, is seen taking care of her newborn son with her partner. She introduces herself to viewers by sharing a question they often get asked, when people ask how a transgender woman can be a mother.

She explains: ‘You get people that are like, “What do you mean, you’re the mum”,’

‘And we’re like, “Yep, we’re both going to be mums”.’

Shea and the other mums in the advert promote Dove’s message that “moms are redefining what it means to be a ‘good mom’, by sharing the unique qualities they bring to motherhood.

“There’s no one right way to do it all,” Shea concludes.

The rest of the mothers in the advertisement talk about how it’s important to “trust yourself” and “be the best version of yourself,” when experiencing what it’s like to be a mother.

This is not the first time Dove has put forth an inclusive advertising campaign. Earlier in the year, the skincare company launched their #RealBeauty campaign, which featured an diverse collection of female profiles.
