Go Ape Trent Park, EnfieldSunday morning and its up and out to Go Ape with my eldest daughter.  The kind people at Go Ape gave me 2 tickets when they saw a newspaper article I wrote about wanting to go and spend the day swinging through trees like a monkey before my 40th Birthday in August.  I decided to take Mia as Ella was out rehearsing for her theatre production all day.  I am still not 100% but Mia is looking forward to it so I don’t want to let her down.  We had a wonderful day, and despite it being hard work, swinging from trees and down zip wires that are 60ft above the ground is a welcome break from the rest of the week.  I am feeling amazing and proud that we both completed the 3 hour course without falling.

The beauty of Go Ape is that you are completely protected by the various clips and harnesses, that said it’s down to you to ensure that you are connected and safe.  It is as much a mental challenge as it is physical.  Bear in mind, that not only was I checking all the harness for me, but also for Mia, who has no fear when it comes to heights or balancing on the tightest of wires.  We leave Trent Park with big smiles on our faces and descend in to the petrol station to fill up – both car and bellies.

It is only when I come to pay I realize that I have lost my cash card!

It is only when I come to pay I realize that I have lost my cash card.  I am forced to complete a form of shame and leave my driving licence promising to return and pay my bill in the week.  It’s another thing to do on the endless list and given the petrol station is about 50 miles from where I live I may have to call in a favour from my mother in law who lives locally to go and settle my bill.  Mia and I go home sharing a packet of doritos as I curse myself for a) having no cash on me and b) for losing my card !  We arrive home to a very tired Ella as she has spent the last 5 hours rehearsing for her production and a stir crazy Stewart who has spent the day washing and working on the website.  As he exits to watch the football I set about the 3 baths and prep that needs to be done for the week ahead, I am also praying the Nits haven’t returned !!

sometimes you have to accept that 80% is enough and you can’t always do everything

So that’s a week in my life, I am tired, but I know that I have this blog to finish and a prototype blog to write for a leading publication.  It’s never ending, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.  So far this week, I have inspired a few ladies, done my bit for charity, put a lot of effort in to the day job and website, I have been blown away by my mentees, I have fixed my ill children, I have given back to those who help me so freely, I have also had quite a bit of quality time with my friends and family.  So yes, it been hard and this week has been exceptional, but when I fall in to bed tonight and everything is more or less where it needs to be for the week, I will be content.  And you know what, if I am entirely honest, not everything is in place, my floors could do with a mop and I should spend at least another hour doing emails, but sometimes you have to accept that 80% is enough and you can’t always do everything.

Next week is another week, another set of challenges and no doubt another dose of inspiration from various places.  So onward bound, with smiles, a bit of exceptional organization and no doubt a few nightmares thrown in.  I may have to use the odd bit of dry shampoo here and there and I might lose a couple of things, but so what…..what doesn’t break you makes you stronger.  Life is about living, pushing boundaries and fitting in as much as you can without killing yourself in the process.  I am by no means an exception to that rule, a super women maybe, a bonkers women, possibly – a happy and fulfilled one, definitely.
