BBC Radio 4 will launch Where’s The F In News, a women-led series created by Have I Got News For You producer Jo Bunting.
Where’s The F In News will be a topical series that has been described as an “energetic and intelligent female-anchored show”.
In 2014, the BBC’s Director of TV, Danny Cohen promised more gender inclusive programming.
“We’re not going to have panel shows on any more with no women on them,” Danny Cohen told the Observer. “You can’t do that. It’s not acceptable.”
Speaking about the gender imbalance in topical programmes, and the concept behind Where’s The F In News, Jo Bunting, who will also present the show said:
“Apparently if a woman speaks in a meeting for 50 per cent of the time a man speaks, he genuinely thinks she’s spoken the exact same amount as he has.”
“So I’ve created a show featuring a shedload of intelligent and funny women.”
Where’s The F In News will be one of 35 separate commissions BBC Radio 4 has confirmed for 2018 and 2019, ranging from sitcoms, stand-up comedy and returning series.
Sioned William, Commissioning Editor for Comedy on Radio 4, said: “It’s a delight to welcome another incredible bunch of comedians to the come of radio comedy, and to showcase such a range of talent through this extensive line-up of new shows.”
