Winter Wonderland starts at 5pm on Friday November 21 2014. From then on it will open between 10am and 10pm every day, from November 22 2014 to January 4 2015 excluding Christmas Day when the event is closed. Admission to Winter Wonderland is FREE. You will, however, have to pay for the attractions you wish to use. Tokens are needed for rides and these can be bought at Token Booths on site.

We’ve been umming and ahhing over which is our favourite of the capital’s outdoor ice rinks, and after much deliberation we’ve gone for Somerset House again. Because, with an evening’s skating around the iconic 40-foot Christmas tree in the grand courtyard to the sounds of Tchaikovsky, followed by some late-night shopping at The Christmas Arcade and with Fortnum & Mason offering a host of seasonal experiences on and off the ice, it’s simply streets ahead in the glamour and romance stakes.

If there’s anything that’s guaranteed to get you in the festive mood, it’s a Christmas carol service – and there’s nowhere more impressive than one by candlelight at the Royal Albert Hall. This year sees a range of seasonal classics from Rutter’s ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’ to Gruber’s ‘Silent Night’ – all performed by the Mozart Festival Orchestra in full 18th-century period costume. With the scriptures read by special guest Robert Powell, it’s a wonderful experience that’ll have you counting down the days till Christmas.

Celebrate the festive season Harry Potter style with Hogwarts at Christmas at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter.

Ensuring things are even more magical than usual, the most amazing snowfall of the season hits Hogwarts. Get up close to the stunning model castle used in the Harry Potter films as it’s covered in a blanket of special effects snow for the Christmas period.

The many intricately detailed sets in the studio are also given a Christmas makeover as props and decorations used in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone are brought out of storage.

There’s also the chance to marvel at the eight Christmas trees that line the Great Hall, alongside festoons of holly, mistletoe and golden wreaths.
